It’s a staggering fact – heart disease is a killer. According to the American Heart Association, coronary heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States, causing about 1.5 million heart attacks each year. Additionally, more women than men die from heart disease in the U.S., and 1 in 3 women are living with it today.

There is a direct connection between a person's attention and their breath.  We can use our breath to calm our thoughts and our emotions.  This practice will develop focus.  From this focus, we can also learn to hold one-pointed attention.  With that laser-beam attention we can accomplish our everyday tasks with greater ease and precision...

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: You will NOT be happy when you lose 10 pounds, or have a different job or a drive better car, when you meet the “right” person, or when “things calm down”. You will not be happy when your biceps or bank account or boobs are bigger, or when your waistline is smaller...

Editor's Note: There is more to yoga than asana (poses). Many believe it's just a physical workout that's good for your body. Yoga is so much more. Part of the yoga practice is working hard to follow the yamas (moral codes) and niyamas (observances). One of the yamas to practice is non-attachment. Not being attached to outcomes, moments, sad times, happiness, expectations and so on. Living in the present moment and the now and not getting bogged down on how you wish things were or how you'd like them to stay. The author of this piece does a nice job of providing real life examples of this. Enjoy!

Ok - I know that yoga means union; Om is the sound of Oneness; when we practice we release judgment and expectation; and all yoga styles are born on the same principle of uniting with the Divinity within. Am I missing anything?

Bhujangasana or cobra pose is a wonderful pose for energizing and opening the body. Sadly, the pose is often done in transition as part of a flow sequence and not as a separate pose that gets much attention to proper form. To gain the full benefits of this pose, it should be done slowly and carefully. Moving quickly through this pose to get to the next won’t allow your body, mind and spirit the chance to absorb the benefits of bhujangasana. Whether you practice vinyasa or not, you will want to be in this pose for a few breaths at some point during your practice.

Remember when you were a kid, and something bad happened at school or on the playground. All you wanted to do was run home to Mama! Well, maybe it’s time to do that again...

Editor's Note from Lexi Yoga: We all have a divine feminine energy inside us. Now is the time to embrace and awaken this feminine energy in order to develop and create new ideas, let go of our old ways, practice forgiveness and love with open arms.

by Yogacharya Dr. Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani
