STOP spraying toxic pesticides on school property, playgrounds and in buildings, and convert to integrated pest management practices...

Editor's Note from Susan Lutz: School lunches need a make-over. These ideas will take our children far and set the standard for a higher level of learning.

As summer draws to a close, it’s time for kids to go back to school. Sadly, this often means a return to terribly unhealthy school lunches filled with fried chicken, pizza pockets, sugary drinks, and high-calorie snacks. School food can  jeopardize the health and well-being of America’s next generation, but fortunately, it’s also the best place to start addressing the obesity epidemic...

Editor's Note from Susan Lutz: School starts soon and what are we learning about health and nutrition? Little if we continue serving pizza, chicken nuggets, and soda in the cafeteria. Initiatives are making their way to give kids a healthier, organic, and energizing lunch - something that might sprout a foundation for higher learning.

School lunches often get low marks when it comes to flavor and nutrition. But chef, author, and activist Ann Cooper is working hard to change all that.

She’s currently handing out a lot of E’s—not for Excellence but for the Elimination of highly processed foods, hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup, refined sugars, and flours, chemicals, dyes, and food additives. Cooper is on a mission to give students access to regional fresh, whole, and healthy foods...

Holistic Nutrition

Editor's Note from Eden Kozlowski: There is so much more that we can give these kids besides prescriptions, IEP meetings and doctor visits. I am a parent of a special needs child... I speak from experience. Let meditation/mindfulness into your life, your schools... and see the magic that can happen to all kids. And, while you're at it, truly look at the nutritional value of your child's school lunch program (check out an article here about just that). Food, like meditation, is also brain power. Our kids deserve all the brain zing a ding ding they can get.

Meditation

by Eden Kozlowski
ATH Co-Editor of Meditation

Last year I wrote a story for All Things Healing reviewing the nutritional impact of a lunch served at my daughter’s public school. Ahhh, another season has come and gone, and I feel it’s time to check in… to see if there has been some change…

Editor's Note from Carol Lawrence & Stacy Toten: Eden wrote a follow up article regarding the lunches schools are serving in our country to our children to this very day. This new article is a follow up to her original article a year ago and it's worth the few minutes it takes to read it. This is a call to action to all parents, an intervention is desperately needed. We recommend you go to the schools, witness the school lunches with your own eyes. It will be a real eye opener. We encourage you to speak up, use your voice, talk to those in charge, and take a look at the websites she's recommended. Your voice is needed in the fight for healthy food for all of our children. It's all of our futures. Thank you Eden, once again for bringing this to all of our attention.  See Part 1

Family & Parenting

by Eden Kozlowski,
ATH Co-Editor of Meditation

I teach meditation, mindfulness and wellness. I am not a nutrition “expert” but know enough to instigate change as I am poignantly mindful about not only what goes into my head but also into my body...

Editor's Note from Carol Lawrence & Stacy Toten: Nutrition and health is vitally important for our children. Nutrition supports healthy bodies, the ability to process, learn and retain information. School lunches are in the midst of change across the country. We support finding ways to provide all children with healthy food.

British Chef Jamie Oliver has been working hard to transform school lunches in England.  He has also traveled to the U.S. to help make a positive difference in childhood nutrition here.  Like Boulder food activist Ann Cooper, Oliver realizes the importance of early childhood nutrition to help improve lifelong health and wellness...

Film/Video

Editor's Note from Eden Kozlowski, ATH Supervising Editor: I am such a BIG proponent for upgrading/altering the current state of school lunches in the United States (my family refers to school lunch as "birthday lunch"). So, anything I can find from Jamie Oliver to Sarah Wu, I'm going to showcase (even if it means showing something from The View - he he). Go Whoopi! So, listen to the ladies interview Sarah Wu, an elementary school speech pathologist who went undercover and ate school lunches for an entire year and wrote the book "Fed up with Lunch."
