 Shining Skull Breath 1 Kapalabhati ~ Breathing Exercise

 

 

Editor's Note from Nicole Spigner: In is officially Fall, and the weather is getting cooler.  In this video, Kavita Maharaj from yogayak.com teaches us how to do practice Kapalabhati Pranayama, Shining Skull or Skull Shining Breath.  This breathing exercise tones the abdomen (think about pulling the abdomen in at the belly button), brings warmth to the body, increases metabolism, and is a perfect practice as we move into the cooler months and shorter days. If you have large amounts of Pitta in your constitution, please remember that this breath increases Pitta in the body (and the mind) and adjust accordingly.  Try to start off easy, at the beginning--maybe 3 rounds of 10-30 repetitions of the breath. Slowly build your stamina, bringing your repetitions up to 108.  Enjoy!
