Partner Sukhasana Twist
from Yoga in No Time at All

Special Valentine's Day Partner Pose!

Time Required: 5 minutes

Benefit: improved back flexibility

Difficulty: 2

Muscles Awakened: abdominals, erector spinae, latissimus dorsi, pectoralis

Description: Sit in an easy cross-legged postion facing your partner with your knees touching. Look deeply into your partner's eyes, smile and express your love. Inhale, lengthen from the crown of your head through your torso to your hips and extend your arms straight out to the side, your arms streaming out of their sockets. Exhale, then inhale, lengthen once again and twist to the right with you and your partner allowing one left arm to pass over and under the other. Your left shoulders should be closer to each other now than when you started. Bring your right arm down and behind your back. Reach for your partner's left hand. Bring your gaze behind you and breathe comfortably. Enjoy the energetic connection between you and your partner. Repeat on the other side.

Joel DiGirolamo, RYT, began practicing yoga at age 12 when he discovered the book Yoga and Health by Selvarajan Yesudian and Elisabeth Haich at his grandfather's house. At this early age he mastered yoga poses using only this book for guidance and continued practicing by himself on and off over the years. He is a Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance and has received training from Sharmila (granddaughter of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois) in India, Doug & David Swenson, Ginger Garner, Amanda McMaine, and several other dedicated yoga instructors. He is a student and practitioner of Kundalini Yoga as well as PEAT energy therapies. Joel is the author of the award-winning book, Yoga in No Time at All and has earned an engineering degree, an MBA, and a Masters degree in Psychology. He is delighted to share his knowledge, joy, and enthusiasm for yoga.
