When I was younger green bean casserole was ALWAYS my favorite side dish at Thanksgiving, but as I got older and began to become more health conscious I realized it wasn't the best dish in the world for me. Cutting out most dairy and wheat from my diet has been quite the adventure, but this dish makes it easier, it is rich and decadent without including those two inflammatory ingredients. The mixture of coconut oil, almond milk and nutritional yeast make it almost impossible to tell that this dish is dairy free..

From Andrea D'Amore: This recipe gives me a chance to reiterate a point I was trying to make to some friends the other day that were arguing with me about the “cost” of my food choices. There point was that $6.54 for organic salad dressing is just outrageous, to which I agreed, and replied “that’s why I make my own for a fraction of the price.” I was quite pleased that by the conversation’s end they could see that making a lot of your own foods from bulk ingredients, that can be used in other dishes, is cheaper AND healthier than the pre-packaged versions...

Editor's Note: Quinoa is great for the 'non meat eater" it is a great source of protein. Calcium,Folate and Copper are other nutrients in Quinoa. Throw in the Sweet potato and you have a really nutrient filled meal! Sweet potato's is a great sweet replacement for my clients.

This dish is loaded with vegetables: swiss chard, leeks, carrots, asparagus, snow peas, mushrooms, and herbs. In fact, it’s essentially a pile of vegetables with some sauce on the plate.  But what a delightful pile it is...

Editor's Note: MMM, MMM good! Mushrooms and tarragon is such a great earthy flavor combination and this is a lovely comfort food dish. Many of the recipes on here call for mushrooms and asparagus together and that's because, well, they really are a great pair...

Blueberries are extremely rich in antioxidants. The dark purple pigment in blueberries contain a phytonutrient known as anthocyanin. This helps reduce LDL (bad) cholesterol. Anthocyanin also enhances the vitamin C content of the berry and helps strengthen cardiovascular health, cancer and diabetes among others...

We are pretty loose with this recipe at our house.... sometimes we only use butter–other times just oil. My kids are making it every time now, so I am just thankful!...

I found a brownie recipe on the Institute for Integrative Nutrition website. It called for carob powder. For a chocolate lover like me, that was unacceptable. How can you make a brownie with a chocolate substitute? So I tweaked the recipe to include high-quality chocolate (preferably sweetened with evaporated cane juice) and a pinch of cayenne pepper. Both cacao and cayenne pepper are aphrodisiacs. Cayenne pepper also dilates capillaries and thus allows cacao’s abundant nutrients to reach cells more easily...

Editor's Note: Since I pack my lunch for work everyday and I don't have a way to heat anything up I'm always looking for something other than the usual salad that has become the mainstay staple of my lunch. This is a wonderful addition and of course great source of protein for those trying to cut back on meat consumption yet still get enough protein out of their diet. The fresh herbs and spices give this salad a great flavor and add anti-inflammatory benefits to the dish. Additionally, fiber from the beans protects our hearts by pulling cholesterol out of the body.

Editor's Note: I love avocado. I can't get enough of them lately. I love that this recipe is so simple, and so healthy. So what are you waiting for? Go make some avocado pasta!

When considering the effect of food on the body, think about the fuel you put in your car. Does your BMW drive better on regular, or on premium? What happens to your engine if there is water in the gas tank? Or sand? Your body deserves at least the same consideration that your car receives when picking its fuel...

It's that time of year. Grey skies, impossibly endless showers, short short days, in a word…miserable. And while it does seem like every second person has the flu and that the sun is never going to shine again, hope is in sight. With the shortest day of the southern hemisphere year just around the corner, it's time for rugging up. It's time for tissues with eucalyptus. It's time for vitamin packed veggies to help ward off the threat of the dreaded flu...

Quinoa, like most complex carbohydrates, is a nutritional powerhouse.  Besides offering the highest protein content of any grain, this gluten-free gem also provides a nearly complete protein, as it is, unlike other grains, high in the amino acid lysine. (One reason why vegetarians are advised to combine grains with legumes, or grains with nuts/seeds, is to achieve a “complete” combination of all nine essential amino acids...
