It's surprising to me still: most people don't come into my office for preventing illness- or better yet to continue their wellness. They come in because they have something that doesn't feel right (or they've been diagnosed with an illness). We don't think about our own health, until we start losing it. So, what does it take to start thinking about? And, what are some things that one can do to maintain health? 1) Eat well: food is something we consume daily and having good quality food is key! It's ideal that food is organic. And, in general, eat lots of dark green vegetables, whole grains (pasta/breads don't count as whole), and easily digestible beans. Of course, there's a lot more to healthy eating than this but if everyone started with this and tailored it to their own needs, we'd do pretty well. 2) Drink LOTS of water 3) Exercise 4) Find and fulfill your purpose: this is interesting because most people in our culture don't talk about it. I find that underlying most illness, there's a feeling of lack of purpose... "what do I do now that I don't have a job, wife, kids, etc?" It's so important to live our purpose... or at least be on the path to discovering it. What I would love to hear from our readers about: what's your "healthy living" practice? What do you do that makes you feel vital every morning?

healthy living practice
Hello everyone! My name is Jen and I wanted to answer your question and share my healthy living practice with all of you. I say a daily morning prayer everyday before I get out of bed. Then, throughout the day, I try to eat my fruits and vegetables raw to get as many vitamins from them as possible. I also try to stay away from red meat and just eat chicken or fish. I also exercise 5 days a week. Finally, I make sure I do my best at fulfilling my purpose (which is to be a Certified Nurse Midwife) so I put forth my best effort with school. Most of the time, I feel wonderful! Jen
