What is Acupuncture and how does it work
by ( Sachi) for (Acupuncture/TCM)
Acupuncture is an ancient healing modality that is still used successfully throughout the world today. Just as blood vessels carry blood, there are pathways in our body through which our vital energy flows. We call this vital energy, CHI. When this flow is smooth and uninhibited, we are in a state of health. When this flow becomes disrupted, we enter into a state of disharmony. Acupuncture uses hair fine needles, placed along these meridians, to correct the health issue. This is what the needles do to help the body heal: a) They cause the blood vessels to dilate increasing blood flow to the area. The blood carries oxygen and nutrients so the supply of these are also increased. b) They get the stuck chi moving which removes the energy blockage c) They release muscle contraction and tension. This allows the body to go back into its natural state since even a slight muscle contraction can pull the body out of it’s natural alignment. d) The combination of muscle release, increased circulation (blood flow, body fluids, and chi) releases the local pressure on the peripheral nerves thereby reducing pain. e) Needling triggers the endorphin release mechanism. Endorphins are those neural opiates produced endogenously (naturally by the body). These endogenous opiates interact at different levels in the central nervous system to inhibit pain perception and pain transmission from the spinal cord. These neuro chemicals, especially Beta Endorphins, are the most potent pain relieving substances known. They are many times more powerful then opium. How long any condition will take to resolve depends on how long the condition has existed. How serious this disruption is. The individual’s basic health and constitution.

I have a question. I have been to 3 different acupunctures 2 of them put the needles in and let me lay for about 30 min to relax.. I felt immediate results. The other one put them in and took them out within like 10 minute span... I got no benefits from that.. Why is there a difference in the time frame? and is there a correct way?

If there is one area that acupuncture can claim to have an effect it's in pain relief. Although most evidence supporting acupuncture can be dismissed as anecdotal, trials have been done where acupuncture does show a pain relieving effect above placebo.
