More about Cathy Alinovi, DVM
Co-Editor of Animals & Pets

Dr. Cathy Alinovi,
veterinarian, pet lover, and author – knew she wanted to be an animal doctor since she was nine-years-old. Her mission then was simple: to make the world safe for dogs; and her mission now – Healthy Patients! – is just as powerful!

Relentlessly committed to her patients' care, Dr. Cathy is quickly gaining national recognition for her integrative approach to animal health. She began her veterinary education at the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine and also holds a Master of Science in Epidemiology from Purdue, but quickly realized that  conventional medicine met some, but not enough, of her patients' needs.

So, rather than settle for what she knew was falling short of meeting the demands of her growing practice, she again went back to school and became certified in animal chiropractic care. And – of course – her passionate commitment to animal health wouldn’t let her stop there. Since then, she’s also become certified in Veterinary Food Therapy, Veterinary Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Therapy and Aromatherapy.

When asked what training is next, Dr. Cathy says, "Whatever my patients need me to learn." Dr. Cathy is owner/veterinarian of Hoofstock Veterinary Services in rural Pine Village, Indiana USA. Her practice philosophy is that basic veterinary care should be afforded to all; and the heart of every exam within her office includes “the food talk.”

To help her clients on the path to good food, she co-authored
Dinner PAWsible, a pet food cookbook that uses people food to make yummy balanced meals at half the cost of grocery store pet food. These easy to make recipes please both dog and cat palates, can work to stop shedding and help treat “leaky gut” issues which are common in most of her patients. Dr Cathy treats 80% of what walks in the door – not with expensive prescriptions – but with adequate nutrition.

More about Michael Salewski, DVM
Co-Editor of Animals & Pets

Michael Salewski, DVM always wanted to be a veterinarian. Over the last two decades his practice evolved from using standard allopathic treatments to incorporating chiropractic, acupuncture and herbal therapy. Recently, he started Hindsight Veterinary Care in Carlton, Oregon, and focuses on treating patients exclusively with manipulative and traditional Chinese therapies.

Large portions of the patients at Hindsight Veterinary Care come from the sporting world. Horses competing at the highest levels in both English and Western disciplines and dogs running in agility or field trials all need therapies that can keep them performing at the highest levels while keeping them happy, healthy and sound without the complications that can accompany many pharmaceuticals.

The same can be said for geriatric and chronically ill patients, where finding a balance between treating disease and quality of life can be a tricky proposition. In all patients, Dr. Salewski tries to find a solution that improves both the physical and mental health of the animal and allows them to continue living a fulfilling life, whether that means earning a blue ribbon or hopping on the couch for a belly rub.

Dr. Salewski is a highly regarded speaker and writer who lectures internationally and at veterinary colleges. He has co-written two books on veterinary herbal medicine: the Clinical Handbook of Chinese Veterinary Herbal Medicine and Chinese Herbal Formulas for Veterinarians. In addition, he has written a novel, Barn Politics, under the pseudonym Philip Marshall.

Dr. Salewski has limited availability for speaking engagements, but is available for consultation through Hindsight Veterinary Care.
