Erica Settino

Along with her graduate degree in Creative Writing, Erica Settino holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with a concentration in Comparative Psychology and Animal Behavior. She worked for many years as a veterinary assistant and technician before starting her own animal care business. Also working for over 10 years as a yoga instructor and Reiki practitioner, she began to implement her holistic training during her time spent with animals. Recognizing that the animals responded just as much, if not more than her human students, Erica earned certification in animal massage and began offering energy and massage treatments to animals of all species, for any number of ailments. She used her energy work to help animals who suffered from trauma due to physical abuse or neglect, worked with aggressive dogs to help ease their tension and high-anxiety, and aided countless numbers of elderly and ailing animals to find relief from varying conditions ranging from hip dysplasia to a terminal brain tumor.

More about Erica Settino, E-RYT, MFA

In 2001, Erica Settino began working in animal welfare and rescue. Most recently, she founded and directs the yoga-based, 501(c)3 non-profit organization, Karuna For Animals: Compassion In Action, Inc., whose members seek to promote compassion (karuna), peace (shanti) and loving-kindness (metta) to animals of all species. It is their mission to raise awareness and funds for the rights of all animals. Through a dedicated practice of the science of yoga, community outreach, humane education, vegan cooking and nutrition education and monthly fundraisers, they aim to cultivate the change they hope to see in the world. All funds raised are used to support their outreach and education programs, with the ultimate goal of providing rescue, rehabilitation and permanent sanctuary for animals of all species.

In September of 2011, Erica’s first children’s book, “I Am Everything and Everything Is Me" was published as part of a humane education curriculum, that she hopes to bring to local yoga studios and school districts across Long Island.

Erica lives in Long Island, New York with her animal-loving husband and their four rescued animal companions:  Presley, Phoenix, Sage and Freya. To learn more about her organization and her book, please visit
