Editor's Note from Sherri Carter: Don't just stand at the door of Truth. Walk through and begin LIVING that Truth!
There are times in life when one needs to take risks.
Open the door.
Walk through it.
~Melissa Harris, Artist
Have you ever had an ah-ha moment? You know, those got it moments, full of excitement, liberation, and being in the spiritual zone. Sometimes, it’s only a fleeting moment we desperately try to cling too. Sometimes it is a euphoria we ride for days, maybe weeks. But slowly, the fear and limiting beliefs start to creep back in, leaving only a lingering faint memory of freedom. I have discovered the purpose of fear; its purpose is to keep us safe within it’s walls of the known, telling us if we stay small enough, we will be okay. However, as Marianne Williamson has so beautiful written “our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” When we live from a place of not understanding fear, where we begin to believe that false sense of security, we slowly die, releasing our dreams, and living a life that is, well, small. We look outside those walls, wishing for more, setting intentions for more, but yet, not willing to actually live for more. We open the door, will take a look, but won’t walk through. Odd dichotomies we set up for ourselves, but yet we do it practically everyday of our lives. Wishing for more but too afraid to actually live for more. Or, we begin to believe, and therefore live, the limiting beliefs keeping us small.
Limiting beliefs can disguise themselves as the excuses we use to justify not taking action. What excuses do you use to keep from taking action? Dr. Wayne Dyer has written a wonderful book about the excuses we use, Excuses Begone! In the book he calls excuses “deeply embedded thinking habits that are preventing you from being the person you want to be.” What from Dr. Dyer’s list resonates with you? Is it the “maybe someday”, or “I’m not enough”? Do you feel as though you are too old, too young, too poor, too busy, too scared? Or maybe you fear others won’t let you, they won’t accept you, it will take too long, or possibly you feel as though you don’t deserve it? Do you fear you won’t have help, you will be alone, or that it’s too difficult to achieve, that you shouldn’t dare to dream such a big dream? These are all very limiting beliefs and excuses we fight for time and time again, when we refuse to utilize the Law of Action. It’s time to create new truths of possibility; truths which you can take decisive focused action from, to choose to create a new experience, to begin to live for your possibilities!
Step 1- Identify the Limiting Belief-
This can be a very scary step. We have had the erroneous belief of “if I admit it then it becomes true” engrained into us through false spiritual teachings. Those limiting beliefs there right there, at the surface, just waiting to keep us from truly living. To prove that admitting it will somehow make it true is a false belief, try this exercise. Spend a few minutes identifying just one limiting belief, then list all the ways this belief has already kept you limited because you haven’t made the conscious decision to release yourself from it, afraid to move beyond its grip. For example, if you don’t feel you truly do deserve a loving, wonderful relationship, how has that belief affected your relationships? Do you see how NOT identifying it and consciously changing it has made it true? If you don’t identify it, how can you change it? By identifying limiting beliefs, you are now giving yourself the empowering opportunity to make a different choice, to follow a new truth for yourself!
Step 2- Create a New Truth
In creating new truths, you empower yourself! No more auto-pilot of living limitations, but rather living the freeing experience of CHOICE.
Limiting Belief- Maybe someday I will achieve my dream.
New Truth- Today is that someday, and even in taking small steps, I’m achieving my dream.
Limiting Belief- I’m not good enough to receive.
New Truth- Of course I’m enough! I’m a beloved Child of God!
Step 3- Implement the New Truth
Make the conscious decision to 1) acknowledge the limiting belief and 2) choose to live the new truth. When a situation comes along, instead of saying yes to the limiting belief, say yes to your new truth. Create a new inner dialogue which will go something like this: “I know you feel as though your don’t deserve this wonderful opportunity, but I am choosing a new truth for myself. I am amazing and I absolutely do deserve the very best in life! I’m going for it!” You may need to have this conversation, or one similar, many, many, many times! It’s okay, we all do.
What intentions have you set for yourself? What dreams do you have that you haven’t yet dared to live? How have your intentions been derailed by limiting beliefs and fear? There is a vast difference between setting intentions, wishing for something and then actively living those intentions in a willingness to grow beyond the safety of the comfort zone. This is why I am so passionate about The Law of Action. This Universal Truth requires more from us than just thinking good thoughts. It requires us to be honest with ourselves, to go deeper into ourselves, to open the door, and walk through.
