How to Embrace Your Power
by Sherri Carter, MS

A Note from Family & Parenting Editor, Sherri Carter: How do you embrace your power? If you're needing ideas in discovering, embracing, and living your strength, here are a few suggestions for you.
“You had the power all along my dear” is what Glinda, the Good Witch told Dorothy. All Dorothy had to do was believe, and act. In the Wizard of Oz, Dorothy embraced her power by closing her eyes, clicking her heels together and saying “there’s no place like home”. We all know the scene well. So, how do we, outside of a Hollywood movie set, embrace our power? Here are a few suggestions:
Believe in what is possible. Walt Disney said “if you can dream it, then you can do it”. Do you truly believe that what you want is possible?
Live what is possible. Too many times, people stop after setting their intentions. They think they are attracting what they need, when in reality, they’re giving their power away! Set your intentions, then, begin to create those intentions. Taking active steps in your journey is powerful. Waiting for someone else to be your Source, isn’t.
Do what you love and love what you do. This goes along with living what is possible. You may question what exactly it is you want in life, or maybe even what is your Divine Purpose, what should you be doing? Dr. Rev. Michael Beckwith says “so many struggle to discover what is the Will of God…the Will of God is for a greater expansion of love and life!” Start with doing what you love and love what you do.
Use discernment. Learn when to say yes and no. Use yes when it supports your dreams; and vice versa, use no when it doesn’t. It’s okay to set healthy boundaries, really, it is.
Say thank you. Don’t dismiss compliments or help. Accept with an open heart of gratitude, no matter how small. Give thanks for all things!
Quiet your mind, even if just for a moment. Take a deep breath into your heart space. Spend a few minutes in this space. Ask yourself “what does my Spirit need?” Take steps to nourish your soul. Coming back to center will refresh you, bringing renewed energy to help you move forward.
And finally, one of my favorite passages…
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” ~Marianne Williamson, A Return to Love: A Look at the Principles of the Course of Miracles
When you live what is possible, moving beyond limitations, you embrace your power. Let your brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous light shine!

About the Author
I believe we are powerful creators. Aligning our thoughts with action creates an active faith, on that can move mountains. This is the foundational belief for my work as an author, speaker, and counselor. In the years leading up to my current work, I found that even though I knew so many people using the Law of Attraction, they were still frustrated, still searching for meaning and change for their lives. I too, was searching, for something beyond only thinking about the life I desired. It was in this search for something more, I discovered the Universal Law of Action. New life was breathed into my intentions as I became an active participant in creating the life I desired! As the people I worked with began utilizing this powerful principle, they too, reclaimed their power and began creating their desires in the present moment, rather than giving their power away by waiting for some distant future.
