Starlings on Otmoor

Editor's Note by Ellen Mahoney: Getting out in nature and observing the many wonders of nature can be healing on many levels. Remarkable events happen all the time, but every once in a while something seems to astound us.  This is the case with the many starlings who are featured in this YouTube uploaded by dylanwinter1.  Filmed in 2007, the footage shows starlings that once roosted in the wetlands reserve of Otmoor located near Oxford, England.

For the past year, I’ve marveled at various YouTubes featuring these birds flying independently yet in unison for.  I realized it’s an exquisite example of natural cohesion and harmony on our magnificent planet.  This short video also reminded me of a time I was driving down Marshall Road in Boulder and saw an enormous flock of birds swirl about one tree in a big, sweeping circle and then alight throughout the tree at the exact same moment.  I actually stopped my car and pulled it over to watch the birds because I was so taken aback.
