3 Ways to Avoid Cancer and Live On Purpose
by Baeth Davis

Editor's Note from Carolyn White: I am always searching for great, practical advice for maintain health and wellness through the application of energy. Part of this process involves living the life you were meant to live - living true to your purpose. Baeth Davis shares her experience with breast cancer and offers three simple ideas on maintaining your energy of wellness and health.

Having just gone through a bout with breast cancer, my life has been rearranged in such a beautiful way. One of my relatives who is now 68 years old had breast cancer in her early thirties and has been healthy ever since. I asked her, “How do you feel about the experience now?”

Having just gone through a bout with breast cancer, my life has been rearranged in such a beautiful way. One of my relatives who is now 68 years old had breast cancer in her early thirties and has been healthy ever since. I asked her, “How do you feel about the experience now?”

She said, “It was a great thing. It helped me to move on with what REALLY mattered to me in my life. I started taking much bigger risks in the direction of what I wanted. My decision to license my art has done so well for me financially. Before breast cancer, I played it safe. Most of all, remember to laugh a lot!”

I concur. Since being diagnosed and having a mastectomy, I feel like my world has been opened in so many ways I never dreamed possible. I can’t promise you that you’ll never have to deal with a life-altering illness, but maybe, just maybe what I share will help you cherish your health and get on with Your Purpose!

#1 Feel Your Feelings Before They MAKE You Feel Them

When the pain meds wore off, I was hit with a tsunami of emotions that knocked me sideways. I don’t think I’ve ever cried so hard in my life. I cried for my sacrificed boob, for my mistakes, for the pain in the world. I cried so hard that my release became ecstasy, with the line between pleasure and pain dissolved.

At one point, I noticed how easy it would be to just slip away… as if my heart could just stop. I remembered my Life Purpose – and my heart kept beating. Every crying bout was followed by a big telltale yawn that said, “Time to sleep now.” In the morning, I was hard pressed to remember what I was mourning the night before.

#2 STOP Being Super Woman

Years ago, my friend, Orna Walters, said to me, “Baeth, you’re not super woman. You’re just a woman.” I didn’t know what she was talking about. Now I do. Breast cancer is the infection of trying to be all things to all people. If you want to lower your chances of breast cancer, stop over-giving, over-sharing, over-controlling.

The KEY to healing the breasts is self-nurturing, self-care, self-love and mastering the art of receiving. Can you take a compliment? Can you drink in applause? For that matter, can you breathe deeply and realize each breath is the GIFT of life itself?

Each breath. The gift of life.

#3 Trust Your Own Body

When the doctors said, “We need to figure out why you got breast cancer,” I said, “I know why. Too much stress, a divorce and the birth control pill.” They could hardly help themselves as they rolled their eyes. I’d had breast lumps in my left breast years ago when on the pill, so when this lump showed up in my right breast, I didn’t sweat it. I didn’t make the birth control pill connection until I started writing out my health history on form after form. [Would it please be possible for there to be a secure health form database? It’s absurd to fill out these same forms over and over and over.]

Then, my AMAZING doctor, Dr. Nalini Chilkov, located in Santa Monica, CA, said, “We’re going to figure this out.” She ran a bunch of genetic tests and sure enough, due to a genetic anomaly where my body has issues flushing estrogen, the birth control pill is, for me, TOXIC. Now imagine if I’d been told that at 18.

JJ Virgin, my fitness guru, told me when the lump showed up, “Get OFF the pill! It’s horrible for your body.” So I did.

I had a mammogram and they told me the lump was a cyst (it may have been at that time.)

So what does all of this have to do with living your life on purpose?

If you can FEEL your feelings, can you TRUST them and act on your truth? See, if you stay in that crappy job, relationship, friendship, etc. – it’s really bad for your health. ANYTHING that causes you to lose power – an addiction, a habit, a negative line of thinking – drains your cells of precious energy.

Next, if you can take care of yourself first and really love yourself, your life will start to work and flow.

Finally, get good testing NOW before you get sick. Both JJ Virgin, Dr. Chilkov and many other health practitioners offer cutting edge tests to determine what is REALLY going on with your body so you can address imbalances and toxicity before it gets out of control.

I plan to share more about this in coming months. Losing my breast was my warrior priestess sacrifice. And I don’t like to admit it, but I don’t think anything else would have gotten my attention this strongly. I am stubborn and I was the anti-hypochondriac. Not anymore.

My new rule? Get symptoms checked. Find causes. HEAL causes. Move onward.
