Why Buying Local Is Worth Every Cent
Editor's Note from Jean-Pierre Ruiz: Buying local has become either a cliche or a buzzword. Either way, it makes sense. This infographic shows the positive financial returns that our dollars can have on our community when we buy locally. This in addition to helping Mother Earth by reducing fuel emissions from transporting goods (most of the foods available in the US year-round is imported, often from far away places - can someone say lamb chops from Australia, or Fiji water?). In fact, 11 billion (yes, with a "B") of fuel is used every year to import products into the US, releasing 1 billion (again with a "B") metric tons of CO2.
